Our heritage & History
A journey of innovation spanning over seven decades, from a small Japanese company to a global leader in health and wellness ingredients

1946
Foundation in Japan
Founded in 1946, Taiyo Kagaku began its journey as a pioneer in food science, launching food flavorings in 1949 and becoming Japan’s first company to produce processed egg products at an industrial scale in 1958. In 1978, Taiyo revolutionized convenience foods with instant products using proprietary microwave technology, followed by the establishment of the independent Mie Food Analysis & Development Center in 1979 to strengthen its science-led innovation. In 1981, the merger of Taiyo Kagaku and Taiyo Food marked the formation of Taiyo Kagaku Co., Ltd., setting the foundation for the company’s global leadership in functional ingredients and nutrition solutions.

Taiyo Kagaku expanded globally and strengthened its scientific leadership by listing on the Nagoya Stock Exchange, establishing subsidiaries in North America and China, and sponsoring major international nutrition conferences. This journey was marked by a key achievement in 1997, when Taiyo received the Food Ingredient Research Award at Food Ingredients Europe for Sunfiber, recognizing its innovation and excellence in functional ingredients.

Taiyo Kagaku achieved a series of major scientific, regulatory and global expansion milestones that shaped its leadership in functional ingredients. SUNTHEANINE® received the Food Ingredients Europe Research Award in 1998, followed by multiple international recognitions in 1999 and 2000, including Food Ingredients Europe awards for SunActive® Fe, the NutraCon Award for Best New Product of the Year and the IFT Industrial Achievement Award for Sunphenon®.
Taiyo Lucid Was Established in India.
Taiyo expanded globally by establishing Taiyo Food (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. and Taiyo Kagaku China Co. Ltd., launched Taiyo Green Power to become the world’s largest green tea extract manufacturer and established the Food Analysis Technology Center in Tokyo. Between 2006 and 2009, Taiyo received multiple technology and development awards for SunActive® Fe, achieved FDA GRAS status for SUNTHEANINE® and earned regional invention awards for nutrition delivery systems and SUNTHEANINE®, reinforcing its reputation for science-driven innovation and global excellence.

2010

Taiyo Kagaku continued to strengthen its global leadership through major regulatory, scientific and innovation milestones and received multiple prestigious awards, including the JSBBA Technology Award and Chubu Regional Invention Awards, while Sunfiber® and SunActive® Q10 were also recognized for regional invention excellence. Taiyo expanded its international presence with the establishment of Taiyo GmbH in Germany, advanced food science through sponsored global symposia, and earned major invention awards for patented technologies, culminating in the Chubu Regional Invention Award in 2017 for breakthrough product innovation.

Taiyo Kagaku India was established as part of Taiyo Kagaku’s continued commitment to strengthening its presence in the Indian market.
The company further consolidated its operations when Taiyo Kagaku India acquired the shares of Taiyo Lucid, marking a strategic step toward unified growth and operational alignment in India, and subsequently established a sales office in Bangalore to support closer customer engagement and market expansion.
Taiyo Kagaku strengthened its global leadership in functional ingredients through award-winning innovation, scientific excellence, and international expansion. In 2020, Taiyo Kagaku India was honored as the Functional Food Ingredient Company of the Year at the India Food Safety Summit & Awards, recognizing its significant impact in digestive and functional nutrition.

Taiyo Kagaku India continued to strengthen its leadership in science-backed functional ingredients, with a strong emphasis on application-driven innovation, strategic customer collaborations, and enhanced regulatory and technical support for the Indian nutraceutical and functional food market. The year was further distinguished by the “Product Quality Excellence – Nutrition Company of the Year” award at the India Food Summit & Awards 2025, reflecting Taiyo’s unwavering commitment to quality, research excellence, and clinically validated, consumer-relevant solutions across digestive health, metabolic wellness, immunity, and overall well-being.
