As North America’s pediatrician, Bill Sears, MD has spent more than 50 years dispensing health and wellness information to kids and their parents. He recently welcomed Alternative Health Expert Bryce Wylde to his home to discuss his new Dr. Poo Prebiotic Sunfiber®. This brand earned a spot on Wylde’s “Best of Show” list at Expo West 2022, one of the world’s largest health and natural products trade shows.

Wylde took Sears back to the beginning of the Dr. Poo persona, the 2017 publication of his book “Dr. Poo: The Scoop on Comfortable Poop,” co-written with wife Martha Sears, RN.

“I love this book because it teaches us about the gut and its connection with children’s health and wellness,” said Wylde, prompting Sears to describe how the book came about.

“I wrote this because, as a pediatrician, I hear about constipation all the time: ‘My child is constipated and just can’t go. Dr. Bill, what do I do?’

“The gut is called the second brain for a reason. There are tons of neurofibers in the gut. So, when you don’t feel good in the gut, your second brain, your head brain doesn’t feel good. … I want kids to have two or three bowel movements every day, but I wanted to make it fun for them.”

To teach kids, he used little phrases in the book such as ‘the better you chew, the better you poo.’ “Kids understand that,” he explained. He also included a Bristol Stool Chart at the back of the book to show kids what their poop should look like.

Commenting that Dr. Poo Prebiotic Sunfiber was one of his favorite products at this year’s Expo West, Wylde asked Sears to describe the necessity of soluble fiber.

“In our gut, we have a big pharmacy called a microbiome,” Sears responded. “The microbiome is a community of gut bugs that,  in return for free food and a place to live, they do good things for us. Like a pharmacy inside us, they make medicines. And guess what their favorite food is? Fiber! Our gut bugs live on our leftovers. Fiber is what makes our stools, our poo, soft and easy to pass. Fiber, fiber, fiber is the key word!”

Wylde and Sears likened soluble fiber to soil fertilizer on a farm to help vegetables thrive. “It’s a perfect analogy,” responded Sears. “Fiber is food for our microbiome.”

Wylde concluded the interview by commenting, “I love the Dr. Poo fiber formula … Sunfiber is  the ‘intel inside. It’s tasteless, odorless and dissolves in water. You can even cook with it, bake with it or put it in your coffee.”

Added Sears, “And once kids get used to pooing like they should, they’ll say “mommy, where’s my Sunfiber?
