Taiyo Kagaku’s R&D

Leveraging various networks in Japan and abroad, Taiyo Kagaku aims to improve the speed of technological development, product quality, and cost competitiveness, aggressively promoting the collection, utilization, and fusion of external technologies. We are involved in a variety of initiatives in Japan and abroad such as joint research with academics who share the same topic and goals, and cooperation with hospitals. We are engaged in over 50 joint research efforts with outside institutions.

TechnologyIncrease the body’s absorption of health ingredients

    Taiyo Kagaku has studied over many years on how to improve the bioavailability of health ingredients that use the Nutrition Delivery System (NDS). Using our “interface control technology” that we excel at, we have already verified NDS technology based benefits with ferric pyrophosphate and lutein. Improving the bioavailability of functional ingredients is likely to become even more necessary in this era where health is increasingly valued.
  • Challenges
    We have studied insoluble effective components in a variety of ways such as dispersing insoluble substances in water, and we think it will be necessary to deliver soluble materials to the site of absorption in water without dissolving it. Additionally, we think that methods of measuring bioavailability to actually verify it are a necessary element for further polishing the technology.
  • Overview of technology wanted
    • Please provide technology for coating the water-soluble substance (powder) such that it doesn’t dissolve in water. We would like a particle diameter no greater than 0.5mm, but some applications may permit a larger diameter, so please send us a wide range of information first.
    • Please provide a simple method to measure absorption of nutrients from the digestive tract.

These technologies are used in beverage development, and are recognized as technologies that promote a flavorful, abundant lifestyle. We think that the technology for biologically active substances, an increasingly spotlighted category in which new ingredients are being developed on a daily basis, must be further developed.

  • Topic background
    Taiyo Kagaku has accumulated over 70 years of research as a pioneer of food emulsifiers. This has led to many patent awards, and our emulsifier technology is now widely used in the food product industry. Consumer demands for food products are now diversifying, and they await the development of not just past developed emulsifiers, but also highly functioning emulsifiers and ingredients with emulsion functionality. The range of design for emulsifiers is expanding by extracting and refining new substances that serve as raw materials for emulsifiers. With new component separation made possible, Taiyo Kagaku believes it can develop emulsifiers with new functions through its emulsifier design and manufacturing technology developed over the years.
  • Challenges
    We study a variety of separation and refinement methods of surfactants, but there are structures for which separation is difficult. We suspect that we can figure out an original activating capacity for structures which couldn’t be separated in the past.

    To create a wider range of possibilities, emulsion is being used in a variety of sectors such as industrial, cosmetics, and food products, but these emulsions cannot move from laboratory level to application in actual industrialization unless a variety of conditions such as emulsion methods, emulsion ingredients, and emulsion equipment are in place. Leveraging strengths derived from many years researching interface control technology, as well as activity in a wide range of industrial sectors such as food products, cosmetics, and industrial products, Taiyo Kagaku has indeed been involved in the R&D effort to apply new emulsion technology to industry through commercialization. We believe that new possibilities can be uncovered with emulsion and solubilization technologies not currently industrialized, as well as ingredients and equipment for achieving it.

    Acquire methods for stable emulsion and solubilization of oil-soluble substances into water, and new technology information on ingredients and devices.
  • Overview of technology wanted
    Anticipated technology will enable emulsion with unprecedented features and preparation of solubilizing substances. These unprecedented features include high stability in water and sensory properties for all types.
